The difference between G thread and NPT thread

G thread and NPT thread are two common thread types, each with different characteristics and applications.

G thread is a British cylindrical pipe thread, mainly used for connections between non-threaded sealed pipes, pipe fittings and pipeline instruments, so it is also called a non-sealed thread pipe thread. It has no sealing function by itself, but can be used with other sealing elements to achieve sealing. NPT thread is a US 60-degree tapered pipe thread, mainly used in North American pipeline systems. It has good sealing performance and can remain stable under high pressure.

In terms of units, metric threads are expressed by pitch, while American and British threads are expressed by the number of threads per inch, which is one of the main differences between the two.

As for the advantages and disadvantages, the advantages of G thread are simple structure and low manufacturing cost, and the disadvantage is that it is easy to leak under high pressure. The advantages of NPT thread are good sealing performance and can work stably under high pressure, and the disadvantage is that the manufacturing cost is relatively high.

In general, the choice of which thread depends on the specific application scenario and requirements. If it needs to be used in a high pressure environment and has requirements for sealing, then NPT thread may be a better choice. If cost is a consideration, or it does not need to work under high pressure, then G thread may be more suitable.
